I'm a Fullstack Software Engineer based in Johannesburg, South Africa. I have a passion for golf and love spending time with my family. I have 2 young boys who like to keep me (very) busy in my free time.

I love working in the software development industry as each and every day brings a new challenge. At its very core, software development is problem solving and having the opportunity to solve different problems each and every day allows me continue growing in all areas of my life.
I take my craft very seriously and believe in doing things the right way and not the easy way. I am a strong believer in building solid processes that ensure that each day is better than the last, no matter how small the improvement.
I have a great sense of humour and enjoy building rich and lasting relationships with all that I work with - considering that the majority of our lives are spent working, it would be silly not to.

I specialise in React Native development, and have experience building internal and customer facing mobile applications.
I especially enjoy using the Expo framework and with their recent introduction of the expo-dev-client, I personally believe there is no justifiable reason not to use it.
Frontend Development

I have a passion for all things React and have built countless web applications using ReactJS and NextJS (this site being one).
I have experience with Styled-Components, TailwindCSS, vanilla CSS, Framer-Motion and much more.
Mobile first design is always front of mind when developing any web application, as the vast majority of web use in today's day and age originates from mobile devices.
Backend Development

I began my career as a C# and Java Developer, but found my passion for NodeJS shortly after. I have experience architecting and building both REST (using ExpressJS) and GraphQL (using ApolloGraphQL) APIs.
I consider database design and implementation a part of backend development as the two go hand in hand. I have experience designing, deploying and managing databases using cloud service providers such as AWS, GCP and Digital Ocean.
Solution Architecture

Having had the opportunity to be a full stack developer for the entirety of my career, I am fully capable of designing systems from the ground up.
The most important aspect of solution architecture is understanding what a solution requires, as well as how all the pieces fit together.
